Make them feel important
Not flattered. Genuinely seen. Name their stake, pressure, role, or standard.
Persuasion Lab
A practical module inspired by Bob Burg's The Art of Persuasion: influence by creating value, lowering defensiveness, offering choices, and making people feel respected rather than pushed.
Constructive influence
The move is simple but rare: understand what the other person values, then present your request as a respectful path toward mutual benefit.
Not flattered. Genuinely seen. Name their stake, pressure, role, or standard.
Give information, options, relief, clarity, or credit before asking for action.
People defend against pressure. They cooperate when they still feel free.
Words to use
"I want this to work for both of us. Can I share one option?"
"Would A or B be easier from your side?"
"This helps you by reducing rework and giving you a cleaner decision."
"What would make this a yes for you?"
Resistance
Ask: "What risk worries you most?"
Ask: "What would make this clearer?"
Ask: "How can we do this without making anyone look bad?"
Trust
"I came in too strong. Let me step back and understand your concern."
"I missed what mattered to you. What should I understand first?"
